Meet the Title I Reading and Math Specialists

 
 
 

Alissa Nardone has worked in education for 20 years, with 4 of those years at Burgettstown Area Elementary Center as a Mathematics Coach for grades K-5. Mrs. Nardone has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education, Grades K-6, and a Master of Science Degree in Education Administration with a specialization in Curriculum, Instruction, and Professional Development.  


Mrs. Nardone’s focus for the school year is to assist in launching our new math curriculum.  She will also focus on providing instruction to students at all grade levels. When asked why she enjoys working in the Title I program, Mrs. Nardone replied, "I love being able to see all of the kids every day. I enjoy helping students make sense of math in the world around them.  I especially love to ease students’ anxiety about math, and lead them to become thinkers and problem solvers.”

 Heather Shaffer has worked in education for 26 years, with 23 of those years at Burgettstown Area Elementary Center as a Literacy Coach for grades K-5. Mrs. Shaffer has a Bachelors of Science Degree in Elementary Early Childhood Education and a Masters Degree as a Reading Specialist.

Mrs. Shaffer's focus for the school year is to provide instruction and interventions to students in multiple grades. When asked why she enjoys working in the Title I program, Mrs. Shaffer replied, "I enjoy working with both the students and teachers at BAEC. Being a Title I teacher gives me the opportunity to work in various classrooms and grade levels. I find working with students that have difficulty reading a very rewarding experience when I am able to assist them in improving their reading skills."
